10 JOHN STREET has been bringing top quality live acts to Waterford for almost 2 years now. In that time, live music fans have been treated to great shows by Ian Brown, Paddy Casey, Fun Lovin Criminals, Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Ocean Colour Scene, Ash, The Human League, Damien Dempsey, The Wailers, Aslan and David Kitt amongst others.
Over the last 2 weeks a major reconstruction has been undertaken to make the venue work a whole lot better as a gig space. The stage has been moved right to the front so that artistes and audience now get a clear view of each other throughout the whole venue. The dancefloor in front of the stage has been made all one level which really opens out the room into a great gig space and the step-up to the bars at the rear of the venue remains, so you can still see the stage when you are getting the drinks in ! Together with it’s powerful EAW sound system, these positive changes are guaranteed to enhance further the reputation of 10 JOHN STREET as the South East’s premier music venue.
The new venue layout will be fully tried and tested on Friday with a line up of 3 of Ireland's finest live acts:
Fri 28 April - Republic Of Loose + The Blizzards + Ashley Sheehan & The Mute
There could not be a better or more timely line up of Irish acts to launch Waterford’s new improved gig space. Republic Of Loose’s new album “Aaagh” is just being held off the Number 1 album slot this week by Christy Moore’s Live At The Point. It’s already been given a major thumbs up by the current issue of Hot Press Magazine which scores it 9 out of 10, describing it as being full of songs that are hard to resist, including the huge singles “Comeback Girl”, “You Know It” and “Shame”. Republic Of Loose are the most exciting live band this country has right now and they are taking their rock and soul revue on a nationwide tour culminating in their huge Dublin Castle gig with Ian Brown next weekend.
The Blizzards were the highest entry in this week’s singles chart with their infectious new song “Trouble” debuting at No 6 to beat their previous Top Ten single “First Girl To Leave Town”. . With a big deal with Universal sealed and a debut album to follow later in the summer, The Blizzards are most people’s tip for the top in 2006. Their influences range from The Clash to Weezer to The Specials and they have been compared favourably to Hard-Fi. Their fans rammed a sold out Whelans in Dublin last week .............
Billed as “A Night Of Rock and Roll and Soul”, the gig on Friday 28th April also features local heroes, Ashley Sheehan & The Mute who were finalists in the recent Murphy’s Live 2006 contest. The lads will take great pride from being recognized as amongst the country’s finest emerging talent and are looking forward to playing brilliant original songs like “I Prefer Lies”, “Victoria” and “I Have Something You Like” to a home town audience again. Tickets just € 15 are on sale now at Sinnotts, BPM Records, Ticketmaster outlets, 0818-719300 and www.ticketmaster.ie and at 10 John Street on the door.
